A Winter’s Soup

Three eggs, some milk, a little salt
Just enough flour to make it stiff
Stock is coming to a boil
Lift the lid and sneak a sniff.

Dough is resting in a bowl
Prep the countertop with flour
Hungry children start to fret
Soup be on within the hour.

Hums she gently as she rolls
The dough beneath her steady hands
from round to flat and flatter still
Now cut into short, narrow bands.

Rolls the boil in the pot
With colors dancing round and round
Onions, garlic, peas and more
Chicken nicely seared and browned

Plop! Plop! Plop! The noodles drop
Low beneath the steamy deep
steadfast is the hand that stirs
As savory flavors slowly steep

A family is gathering near
Beckoned by aromas fine
Soup is on, take up your bowls
The time has come for us to dine!
