“You Should Write…”

“You should write…”

Ok, I’ll write. But what should I write about? That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it?

Some write about cooking and meal planning. Oh yes, I do find myself browsing those kinds of blogs often, because I’m not great at either, to be frank. Probably not something I should share with the world… can you see the post title? “10 Ways to Burn a Pot Roast! With Pictures!” *facepalm* Nobody wants to read about that… unless you’re looking for comedy, and in that case, perhaps I do have something to offer!

Some write about parenting and housekeeping. Again, not my strong suite… I’m learning, growing, becoming more and more the mom and homemaker God wants me to be, but I’m not even close to the point I feel I have much to offer the conversation just yet. Ask me when I’m 60, maybe then I’ll have a clue what I’m doing!

I do like DIY blogs… they’re soo ingenious and fun! But once again, I browse those because I need ideas, not necessarily because I have them…

Health and wellness? I mean… we eat chicken nuggets, boxed macaroni and cheese, and hot dogs on a regular basis, and I’m still working on getting this Diastasis Recti healed up, so I’m kind of limited there as well.

Starting to sound like a bunch of excuses, eh?

Yeah. That’s kind of what I was thinking, too.

Truth is, I’m kinda’ scared. Nervous, putting myself out there for the world to see. Afraid I’ll say something wrong, hurt someone I care about and respect deeply, attract the trolls.

Truth is, “do not be afraid” is one of the most often mentioned commands in the Bible.

“You should write…”

OK. I’ll write. But what should I write about?

“Write what you usually write.”

Is there a need for that kind of writing? An audience for it? It’s not exactly your typical blog post material…

Didn’t ask you that. I asked you to write.”

You want me to engage in creative, descriptive, perceptive, reflective writing… with what, a theological bent?

“…”

Oh!…

Look, I can’t tell you what this blog will be. I’m really not sure myself yet. I can’t even say if it will be worth the while for you to read it. I can say what it won’t be…

It’s not a 10-steps-to-a-better-you blog.
Not a “perfect pot-roast” blog.
Won’t give you simple, fun DIY’s for rainy days at home with kids.
Certainly won’t be a prim and proper parenting guide.
And don’t you dare ask me how far I can run or how much I can lift… (and in case you were wondering, I have absolutely no idea on either!)
It’s not even a Bible study, theology, doctrine, or devotional blog, really.

It’ll be some sort of creative writing blog, full of musings, observations, stories, tall tales, poetry… and all from a decidedly Christian, theological and faith-based bent.

There may be humor, heartbreak, sacred things and secular things. And yes, perhaps you noticed the tab already… if I can manage it, maybe even some music too. It’s likely I’ll get the kids involved in some fashion eventually. But for right now, I’ve decided, finally, to simply start.

I don’t want to change the world with my words. God’s already cornered the market on that one; my words are but the creaky click of a cricket compared to the symphony of His. But if my words can in some way move your heart one step closer to His, they won’t have been in vain. And that therein is the hope; that these stories, musings, observations, and generally creative written pieces (and maybe more!) might move you to look into the face of God and draw nearer to His side.

And, by the way, He loves you, you know that? I hope you do. And if you need to be reminded of it, be reminded. He loved you quite literally to death, but he didn’t stop there. He loved you beyond death, and loved right back to life again. Walk with Him, won’t you? Walk with Him now, that you might walk with him through death and right back to life again too.

Thanks for reading this simple introduction to this new thing called “blogging” I’m trying in 2021.

Oh, and in case you were curious about the name of the blog…

…TO BE CONTINUED…

Grace & Peace,
-SF
